Efficacy of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in the Treatment of Aortic Stenosis in Elderly Patients in Brazil

Objective: to analyze the current scientific literature on the treatment of aortic stenosis in elderly patients in Brazil using traditional surgery and transcatheter aortic valve implantation, as a means of proving its effectiveness through the outcomes obtained. Method: scoping review, aiming to map the literature on the subject, identifying key concepts and possible gaps, and providing a description of the information found. Results: 12 articles were selected from the electronic databases. It was found that conventional treatment is a well-established procedure with excellent results if properly indicated and performed. Its indication depends on a careful assessment of the clinical condition, associated health problems and the patient's age. In turn, TAVI has emerged as a new, less invasive form of treatment for aortic stenosis. As an initial benefit, TAVI presents a lower risk than conventional surgery. Final
considerations: studies report that TAVI patients do not usually require a new aortic procedure, and compared to surgical valve replacement, TAVI may represent a viable and durable option for patients with aortic stenosis.
